It's like a never ending nightmare with the Padres bullpen. For the first time all year, the Padres were able to put together a late game rally and tie the game up at 7 in the 8th. And the bullpen wasted NO time in giving those runs right back to the Astros. The combination of Joe Thatcher and Heath Bell surrendered 4 runs in the bottom of the 8th, cutting the Padres down at the knees and giving them essentially no hope of winning the game based on their offense's capabilities. Or lack their of. In a game like this you would like to look at the bright sides; Adrian Gonzales smacking a home run, Padres scoring the most runs in the late innings that they have all season, Peavy pitching well. But it's just so hard when the negative elements of last night's game completely over shadow the bright points. What has happened to the Joe Thatcher that came to the Padres late last season and was lights out? Where is the aggressive Heath Bell blowing batters away with his fast ball that we all got to know and enjoy last year?
If the Padres continue to play this way, don't count on more than 65 wins all season. Time to make some moves Padres! Open that wallet and act like you care about winning. Pathetic. Padres 7. Astros 11.
